21 Juni 2011 | Verenigde Staten, Washington, D. C.

During our fantastic bicycle expedition through Mississippi, Tennessee, Virginia, Maryland and Washington DC we met a lot of very friendly and hospitable people. Maybe that was the most striking aspect of our trip through America: the kindness and open and amicable mind of Americans we met. They all gave us permanently the feeling that we were most welcome in their towns, states and country.

Of the people whom we met and had more than a brief contact or conversation, and with whom we exchanged e-mail addresses and the URL of our travel blog, we would like to thank:
Steve, Outdoors Inc, Cordova TN
Brenda & Bill West, Oxford MS
Connie Wylde, Oxford MS
Jeannie & Kees Gispen, Oxford MS
Johnny & Maureen Boswell, Kosciusko MS
Marylin & Don Swett, Denver CO
Sylvia – ‘Myrtle the Turtle’ – Halpern, Portland OR
Linda & David Rocell, Collinwood TN
Susan Bro, Leipers Fork TN
Austin Bauman, Nashville TN
Pat & Ken Carruth, Joliet, IL
Edward Rouse, Ooltewah TN
Scottie, Lisa & Mariah Mayfield, Athens TN
Marceia Holland Mouth of Wilson, VA
Carol & Stan Fielders, Pnsacola FL
Calvin – ‘Cycal’ - Pletcher, Midlothian VA
Champe Burnley, Richmond VA
Terry Dorn, Fredericksburg VA
Ben & Gus, Spotsylvania/Fredericksburg VA
Brian Scott, Spotsylvania VA
Fred Lonas, Purcellville VA
And all the other people of whom we unintentional forgot to write down their names. Our apologies for this!

We would also like to thank our Warm Shower and other hosts, with whom we stayed one or two nights:
Donna & Gary Holdiness, Kosciusko MS
Suz Garrett, Hohenwald TN
Leigh Ann Polsgrove, Nashville TN
Michael Mayfield & Jaimie, Athens TN
Debra & Jerald Byrd, Jonesboro TN
Joanne & Charlie Dyer, Fairfax Station, VA
Sandy & Steven Jakubowski, Stafford VA

Special thanks we would like to express to:
Lucia & Robert Bragan, Bethesda MD, who gave us a relaxed introduction to Washington DC and gave us the feeling being part of their circle of family and friends.

Most of all we would like to express our sincere gratitude to
Margaret Wylde & Ken Wooten, with whom we had a special and warm contact from Day 1 to Day 90 of our expedition. They gave us a relaxed introduction to the United States. They also gave us the feeling being part of their circle of family and friends. And they firmly supported (as did Donna Holdiness) in our fight with Delta Airlines (The Pink Crocodile). Margaret, you were invaluable for us!!

To all of you: whenever you are in Europe, or in the Netherlands, you are most welcome at ours in Wageningen.

Warm greetings,
Gé & Bouke de Vos

Bouke

Een lang gekoesterde wens van Bouke: kijken waar de Amerikaanse Burgeroorlog (1861-1865) is uitgevochten. Accoord van Gé mits niet per huurauto of camper: waarom gaan we niet fietsen? OK, zeiden we direct tegen elkaar!! De route gaat van Memphis, TN naar Washington DC, door Mississippi, Tennessee, Virginia en Pennsylvania: 3200 km in 90 dagen.
